Underground Music Showcase

When you’re being dogged by the dog days of summer, an urban music concert featuring under-the-radar acts is the perfect refuge from the bite of the blistering sun. Hence the annual arrival of the three-day Underground Music Showcase, the Rocky Mountain equivalent of that other unsigned artist mecca in Austin, TX. Think of it as West by Midwest.

A mid-summer’s Saturday night with an adorable, slightly geeky, musician cracking jokes on stage is my definition of a perfect concert. Oh, and they sell wine by the bottle now at the Pavilion? Say no more.

Red Rocks Music Festival

My summer of bottomless beer, food truck grub, and obnoxiously loud (and just plain obnoxious) punk bands continues. This time, the debauchery made the hike up to beautiful and scenic Red Rocks Amphitheatre thanks to longtime NOFX mouthpiece Fat Mike. He brought his traveling caravan of melodic miscreants to the 2nd Annual Red Rocks Beer Festival, which featured tons of nearby and far-flung craft breweries including Guinness, Crooked Stave, Stone, Odell, Great Divide, Ska, Tommyknocker, and Ratio Beerworks, among many others.
